Abbey Choir Success!

Congratulations to our very own Bourne Abbey Choir who, under the direction of recently appointed Director of Music – Andrew Clingo, won the Gold Award in the district competition of the Rotary Young Musician of the Year held at Bourne Academy on Sunday 18th January.  This fabulous news means that the Choir has qualified for the area semi-final which will be held at King John’s School, Thrapston on Saturday 7th March 2015.

The Choir sang two contrasting songs, “The Rhythm of Life’ from Sweet Charity and the classic “You’ll Never Walk Alone” from Carousel.

Mr Clingo said, “As the new boy in town and having never attended a choir competition before I am absolutely over the moon with the result and the judge’s feedback. I was delighted that the finely-honed aspects of the performance were commented on by the judges. I only began working with the choir on these pieces in December and it has been a rush to get the pieces ready and polished for the contest. However, the outstanding talent and enthusiasm of the children and the amazing teamwork that exists at Bourne Abbey has won the day here!  I am immensely grateful to the children, their parents, Mrs Orme, Mrs Edwards and the hugely supportive Year 6 team for their support of the choir on the day and in rehearsals. It never ceases to amaze me what outstanding musical talent Bourne has to offer. I look forward to many competitions in the future and also many collaborative music projects between all our schools”.
