We Can Play!

Last week it was national girls’ football week where primary schools through to universities were encouraged to run activities for girls.  Women’s football is the largest female team sport in the country and the third largest team sport after men’s football and cricket. During the FIFA Women’s World Cup, the FA launched We Can Play, a campaign to encourage more females to play football.

At Bourne Abbey, we love to encourage and inspire children to follow their dreams and try new activities. This week was a fantastic opportunity for us to offer the girls a chance to try something new. We ran two lunch time sessions as well as our weekly girls’ football club for Key Stage 2.  We played some mini games and learnt new skills.

The girls fully embraced this opportunity and they enjoyed every minute, many inspired by the world cup and cannot wait to play again.
