Fantastic Fireworks

“Wow!” “Fantastic display” “Great atmosphere” are just some of the crowd reactions to the inaugural Bourne Town Firework Display jointly coordinated by Bourne Abbey C of E Primary Academy P.T.F.A. and Bourne and District Round Table.

Although most of the setting up took place in the rain, the weather changed just in time for the event which saw hundreds of visitors to the school’s Manning Road Field enjoy two fantastic firework displays as well as a range of additional entertainment.  Music was provided by Bourne Abbey and Bourne Westfield choirs, singing duo Mitch & Dean, Clutching at Straws and local band Revolver.

The Choirs worked very hard to learn the three songs for the opening ceremony.  Mr Clingo, Director of Music, chose ‘Firework’ by Katy Perry, ‘Light My Fire’ by The Doors and ‘Relight My Fire’ by Take That.  This made sure that the firework event started with an upbeat and lively performance which got the crowd engaged and ready for a fantastic display.  The combined energies of both choirs encouraged all the children to sing their very best!  It was a pleasure liaising with Westfield Academy and a big thank to Mrs Beavis for her invaluable help.  Mr Clingo said "The rehearsals were increasingly lively as the children's confidence in the songs grew - just like fireworks the children exploded into improvised dance routines and sang at the top of their voices!  We were all very excited during the event and hope that everyone enjoyed our performance as much as we enjoyed performing for all the families of Bourne”.

As well as the live entertainment, there were fairground rides, food stalls, a beer tent and other stalls to keep family and friends occupied, as well, of course, the lighting of the bonfire, complete with a guy made by The Craft Centre to a winning design by Bourne Abbey pupil Evie, aged 8.  The quieter children’s display was started by Executive Headteacher Mrs Cherry Edwards and 5 old Oliver, from Bourne Elsea Park Academy, who pressed the button to begin the main display having won the opportunity in a pre-event raffle.

Event organisers Pam Hallas and Neil Bothwell said “We’d like to thank everyone who supported us – our sponsors, suppliers, stall holders, ticket sellers and of the course the community of Bourne who came out in force to support the event.   It takes a huge amount of time and commitment from dedicated volunteers to put on such an event, but the feedback we’ve received makes it all worth it.  We will take on board people’s comments and suggestions and we look forward to seeing you all back on Saturday 5th November 2016!”
