Len Pick Trust Donate Defibrillator

Both Bourne Abbey C of E Primary Academy and Bourne Else Park C of E Primary Academy have a brand new, state-of-the art defibrillator that could help save the life of pupils and staff in the event of a heart attack. The funds for the defibrillators, which can be used by anyone, were kindly donated by the Len Pick Trust.

According to the Red Cross, cardiac arrest can affect people of any age without warning, but swift action using resuscitation and defibrillation can help save a life.  Modern defibrillators are safe and easy to use and cannot be used in error. The machine will only deliver a shock if it is needed. The chance of survival from a heart attack is much greater when a patient receives early defibrillation, quickly followed up by advance cardiac care from an ambulance team.

Training, provided as part of the purchase package, is planned for staff from both schools and will be delivered by LIVES

Executive Headteacher, Cherry Edwards said; "The fact that we have the defibrillators is a testament to the commitment by the Len Pick Trust to continue to help the families of Bourne. Not only is the Trust potentially helping to save lives by providing these machines in our schools, they are also raising awareness of emergency care.  Everyone at both schools sends their grateful thanks to the Trustees of the Len Pick Trust for their generous donation."

The defibrillators will be sited in the main school office at each schools and will be accessible to the public, in an emergency, during school opening hours.
