Church Schools' Festival

On Thursday 19th May, Year 6 pupils of Bourne Abbey Church of England Primary Academy attended the annual Church Schools’ Festival at Lincoln Cathedral.  We met a variety of schools from Grantham, Spalding and surrounding areas and participated in a wide range of exciting activities.  These included: creating our own church organs whilst investigating the musical structures of the instruments and how they are used in the cathedral, drama workshops with performances and poetry.  Following these, we enjoyed exploring a small-group tour around the Cathedral by a volunteer guide – Year 6 were particularly excited to see the infamous Imp!

On the tour we learnt about how and when the cathedral was constructed and who it was designed by.  We all felt proud representing our school in the festival and were amazed at how many new things we found out about the history of the Cathedral and its importance in so many people’s lives.  In particular, many of us were stunned by the beautiful, stained glass windows and the way in which the colours were reflected on the internal stone walls.

Following a picnic lunch in the nave, we took part in a special ‘Here I am, Lord’ afternoon service to celebrate the festival and sang three hymns as a whole congregation.  Our special Bourne Abbey church banner was paraded alongside all the other schools and finally blessed by Bishop Nicolas, along with our very own cathedral candle.  The day was incredibly interesting and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone attending.
