Hill Holt Woods Visit

A group of Bourne Abbey pupils attended an event at Hill Holt Wood, Swinderby which focussed on human rights and freedom.  As a UNICEF Rights Respecting School, this topic is interwoven into the curriculum at Bourne Abbey, therefore this was a fantastic opportunity to see rights highlighted in an outside environment.

The pupils enjoyed making Medieval bread and tasting Medieval food, thatching and constructing a ‘bug hotel’.  In addition the rights of Anglo Saxon peasants, suffragettes and people persecuted for their religious beliefs were discussed through an entertaining theatre production.

At the end of the day we were presented with a ‘Freedom Tree’ which will be planted in our school grounds.  The pupils had a hugely enjoyable, if muddy, day in the woods, whilst considering the important rights that all people are entitled to but do not always have.
