The Lion King

Bourne Abbey C of E Primary Academy Year 6 pupils worked exceptionally hard to pull off a fantastic production of the Lion King.

The young lion cub, Simba, is put in danger by his wicked Uncle Scar – who is determined to be King of Pride Rock whatever the cost. The Lion King tells the story of how Simba (together with his friends Nala, Pumba and Timon) goes on a journey of discovery and learning, and the adventures he has along the way.

All of the Year 6 children were involved, in some way, to make this the most amazing production.  Acting, singing, dancing, costumes, hair and make-up, lighting, sound and other front and backstage jobs were completed brilliantly in order for this show to take place.  The backstage crew relished the chance to take on these responsibilities.  Some of the audience couldn’t believe that these roles were carried out by children!

The acting and singing parts were a chance for some Year 6 children to take to the stage and perform.  All of the actors really enjoyed their moment in the spotlight, even though some were a bit nervous to start with.  Some of these young people have a brilliant future ahead of them if they choose to continue with performing arts at secondary school.

The choir of Year 4 and 5 children added power and energy to the songs.  Although the tunes are familiar, the Swahili words and complex harmonies were tricky to learn.  The overall effect however was superb; many of the audience members were brought to tears.

The children loved being a part of such a fantastic group effort:

“I feel thankful for the opportunity. It’s something I will remember for the rest of my life.”

“It was such a privilege to be up there on the stage, I am extremely happy to have had the opportunity.”

“I loved being a part of such an amazing production. I have had the time of my life!”

Musical Director Mr Andrew Clingo said;

“I am so proud of each and every one of these incredible children. They have totally surpassed my expectations and I am overwhelmed with how they have approached this challenge.”

All of the Bourne Abbey team are so proud of the year 6 children. It has certainly been a production to remember!
