Year 5 Vile Victorian Assembly

Victoria was their almighty queen which she became at just the age of eighteen. This episode of horrible history shall show:

The lives of some who were bathed in glory and others that just have an interesting story.

This was the opening line to our Year Five Vile Victorians assembly which took place on 26th January. We have been studying the Victorians since September and have covered a wide range of topics about the era but for our assembly we made our own version of Horrible Histories. It was a tough few days getting everything prepared but we produced a great performance to  be very proud of. Judging by all of the laughter, the audience enjoyed it too.

Our first scene focused on the meeting and marriage of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert- the love story of the century. This kicked off the assembly with a bang (and lots of giggles) as the whirlwind romance was played out on stage. Throughout the rest of the assembly, we studied the lives of the rich and famous such as Florence Nightingale and Alexander Graham Bell, and the not so famous street urchin pick pockets and ordinary children at school.

We took a humorous approach to our assembly but through this we have learned so much about life in Victorian Britain and how our lives today have been transformed by some of the ‘radial’ ideas and inventions, which are now part of our everyday lives.  We have used this knowledge to help us consider how we can continue to improve the lives of others.

This whole assembly is something that we will remember for a very long time. The staff of Year 5 would like to congratulate them for all of their hard work and the exceptional assembly they produced.
