Scifest 2018!

Sensational SciFest!

Last week pupils throughout the school took part in the 10th Bourne SciFest! Children were inspired, amazed and enthralled by amazing animals, magnificent magic and spectacular stars!

The children were visited by different presenters and workshops organised by the Bourne SciFest committee who fund these activities from generous donations from local businesses, schools and grants.

Reception and Year 1 children were amazed by Matt Pritchard’s Science Magic Show. He dazzled them with an array of tricks that they could do at home. This included a magic diving bottle and the disappearing water!

Year 2 and Year 6 children were impressed by James Soper who wowed them with the Science behind the Ultimate Athlete including forces, energy transference and a very loud bang when igniting hydrogen!

Mark the Earthbound Misfit visited Year 3 and Year 5 and astounded them with his juggling and balancing skills whilst explain the laws of Gravity and how what goes up must come down.

Year 4 was a wild place to be on Thursday when they were visited by the Exotic Animal Encounters team who brought with them a bearded dragon, a desert fox and a tarantula called Charlotte! The sky was the limit for the Year 5 pupils who were visited by the Starlincs mobile planetarium. Inside the giant inflatable dome, they were shown constellations that can be seen in the night sky as well as how the sun, moon and planets make up our solar system.

Mrs Jenni Trafford, Class Teacher and member of the Scifest team said, “All in all it was an amazing week, engaging and offering pupils opportunities to broaden their minds and deepen their love of learning.”
