Football Tournament

Both teams were fantastic, they played their hearts out every game!  Working as a team and supporting each other through every match and challenge they faced. The group were role models for the school as they conducted themselves brilliantly throughout the competition.

The Bourne Abbey A Team played brilliantly and won all of their five games in the opening stages of the competitions, only conceding one goal.  This meant that they went through to the knock-out stage of the competition.  The next match was a hard fought quarter-final with both teams drawing even at the end of extra time, which meant the dreaded penalties! After four penalties the score was still level until George made an important save and we went on to score the next penalty and go through to the semi-finals.  The semi-final match was against Monkshouse Primary School, who the team had already beaten in the first round.   Again the match was closely fought and went to extra time and unfortunately they scored a golden goal leaving Bourne Abbey to finish in third place.  This was still a fantastic achievement and they went home with their heads held high and a bronze place medal around their neck.

The B team were placed in a very difficult league with three A teams from other schools.  They won one, drew one and conceded two in some very tight games in their league.  They all demonstrated a fantastic team ethic, encouragement and support throughout the day was shown from all members of the team.
