Athletic TeamTwo teams of children from Bourne Abbey C of E Primary Academy recently took part in a Sports Hall Athletics competition held at Spalding High School.

This competition is a fantastic way of introducing children to athletics and adapts the events so they can be staged in a sports hall.

The children took part in a range of track events using special boards known as reversa boards which lean against the end walls of the running track.  The children then run and turn off these boards at the end of each lap.

They also participated in a range of ‘field’ events.  These included the standing long, triple and vertical jumps, speed bounce, chest push using a weighted ball and javelin using foam javelins.

Twelve teams were involved in the competition from across primary schools in Bourne, Market Deeping and Spalding.  The children were awarded points in each individual event and these then go towards the overall team results. The A team from Bourne Abbey finished in 2nd place and the B team in 6th place.

Our pupils had a fantastic day.  The effort, enthusiasm and support for each other that they demonstrated on the day was a real credit to both themselves and the school.
