Hockey Tournament

Four teams of children from Bourne Abbey C of E Primary Academy recently took part in a hockey tournament held at The Deepings School.  Hockey is proving to be very popular in school, with over 50 children turning up for the lunch time trials.  Eventually the squad was selected and the children practiced hard during their lunch times leading up the tournament.

Twenty four children took part in the tournament and they were hugely excited about representing the school and competing against the other schools.  Six local schools were involved in the event.  Teams from Bourne Westfield, Linchfield, Edenham, Baston and Southview school in Crowland took part and put up some stiff opposition.

The teams from Bourne Abbey displayed excellent competitive and supportive team work and fought hard to compete in their matches in the first round of the competition.  The results of this were crucial as teams had to win their league to be able to go into the semi-finals.  The C and D teams battled hard but came up against some very good opposition competing against A and B teams from the other schools.  The B team narrowly lost out on a semi-final place on goal difference however the A team won all their matches displaying some fantastic individual skills and team work.  They went on to win their semi-final and were in the final against Bourne Westfield A team.

This was a very competitive game with the scores level at one all at half time however with an early goal at the re-start Bourne Westfield went on to win with Bourne Abbey finishing in second place overall.
