District Netball Tournament

District Netball TeamTwo netball squads from Bourne Abbey C of E Primary Academy recently attended the District Netball Tournament in Spalding.  Twenty four teams from schools across Bourne, Market Deeping and Spalding took part and thankfully the wind and the rain subsided and the weather was a lot more favourable for playing netball.

The children had been practising hard in their lessons and at netball club.  At primary school the children play ‘High Five’ netball with only five children playing on the court at any time.  The other main difference to normal regulation netball is that the children rotate positions at half time and between matches to encourage them to learn the role of each position.  This in itself adds an additional challenge to the game!

The children were very excited and nervous in equal measure to be attending the tournament and to be representing the school.  The standard of competition was very high and a place in the final for the A team came down to a ‘golden goal’.  They held their nerve however and went onto win the match and to face John Harrox Primary School in the final.  Once again, another tough and close match with the A team unfortunately losing 1-2.

Both teams played exceptionally well throughout the day and displayed excellent individual skills, teamwork and sportsmanship.  The A team finished in second place overall and the B team in fourth place out of a possible twenty four.

A massive well done to all the children who took part!
