Bourne Abbey C of E Primary Academy recently organised a cricket festival for the local primary schools.  The event was held at Bourne Cricket Club on the Abbey Lawns and over 170 children from six local primary schools took part.  Students from Bourne Grammar School who are completing a sports leadership course assisted in the coaching and officiating during the day.
The event was for children in Years 3 and 4 and aimed to develop a range of basic cricket skills such as throwing and catching, fielding, batting and bowling.  The pupils were placed in coaching groups with children from other schools which was a great way for them to mix and make new friends.  They spent the morning receiving coaching and then the afternoon playing fun games of continuous cricket.
PE Co-ordinator, Clare Ladley commented “It was a fantastic day despite the unseasonal cold weather and I was thrilled to see the children so engaged and obviously loving what they were doing.”
Many thanks to Bourne Cricket Club for allowing us to use their grounds and the staff and students from Bourne Grammar School who demonstrated great leadership skills with the primary age group.
