Maths Assembly

The Year One parents and carers settled down in their seats and waited for the year group assembly to begin. They were expecting to see the usual topic themed performance but what unfolded before their eyes was a ‘Maths Is Fun’ extravaganza, penned by Year One teacher Mrs Trafford.

The children excitedly led the audience through their Year One Maths learning journey through stories and an extensive list of songs. Their knowledge of number bonds, shapes, odd and even numbers, addition and subtraction amongst many things were superbly demonstrated, with every child playing some part in the presentation. The story of Mr and Mrs Haktak, which was based on an old Chinese tale, explained the children’s understanding of doubling in a very unique way.

“The acting and singing was outstanding throughout and we (the Year One team) are understandably very proud of our children. They worked extremely hard to make the assembly come together in time. High praise however must go to the children who stepped into parts on the morning of the assembly after a spate of illness swept through the year group. Thanks and praise must also go to our parents and carers for their continued support and the response from them on the day was remarkable.” said Mrs Simpson, Year One leader. The Maths based assembly followed a very successful series of Maths Impact in Learning workshops for parents held the previous term.
