Primary School Hockey Tournament

Hockey is proving to be very popular in school and eventually squads were selected and the children practiced hard during their lunch times leading up the tournament.

Twenty four children took part in the tournament and they were hugely excited about representing the school and competing against the other schools.  There were ten teams taking part from four local schools and they put up some very stiff opposition.

The teams from Bourne Abbey and Elsea Park all displayed excellent competitive and supportive team work and fought hard to compete in their matches in the first round of the competition.  The results of this were crucial as this determined the overall positions they would be playing for in round 2.

In round 2, the two teams from Elsea Park played against each other for 5th and 6th place and finished tying their match.  Bourne Abbey B team won their game against one of the Langtoft teams and came away with the third place medals.

The A team from Bourne Abbey were up against Langtoft A team in the final.  This was a very competitive game with the scores level, 2 goals each at full time.  This meant the dreaded penalties!! After what seemed like an endless number of penalties had been taken and the teams remained tied Langtoft missed a penalty and the Bourne Abbey player kept their nerve to score the deciding goal and come away with the trophy and the first place medals.  The team now go on to play the winners from Spalding and Long Sutton in February for a place at the County Finals in July.
