Pattern Day

The Reception children have had a fun filled day learning all about patterns in our environment.

On Friday 13th February the Reception children came to school dressed in as many patterns as they could find, including stripy tops, spotty socks, chequered shirts and colourful patterned tights! We looked fantastic!

The pupils learnt how to read, copy and create their own patterns in lots of different activities both inside and out; including making pattern necklaces, designing chequered bookmarks, printing with shapes and stamping patterns in playdoh.

After reading the story, ‘Elmer’ they worked together to create a patchwork elephant fit for pattern day! We then looked at animals and their amazing patterns and grouped them in different ways.

We rounded off our day when we went on an exciting pattern hunt, equipped with a magnifying glass and a camera to record lots of natural patterns found in our world including brickwork, carpets and bark.
