 P.E. and Sport Vision Statement

At Bourne Abbey we understand the importance physical education and school sport have in developing the whole child.  Our vision is to inspire a generation to hold deep the values of friendship, excellence and respect.  Our aim is to challenge each child to reach their full physical, creative and intellectual potential.  We aim to develop a sense of personal health and well-being and a desire for lifelong participation in physical activity or competitive sport.

Every student shall be physically educated - that is, shall develop the knowledge and skills necessary to perform a variety of physical activities, maintain physical fitness, regularly participate in physical activity, understand the short and long-term benefits of physical activity, and value and enjoy physical activity as an ongoing part of a healthy lifestyle.

Sports Ambassadors

We have 4 children from year 6 who have been selected to be Sports Ambassadors.  They have a very important role within school helping to promote within the children the values and benefits of regularly participating in sport, leading an active lifestyle and eating healthily.  We have our Sports Committee at school with representatives from each class meeting once a term to discuss issues regarding PE and sport within the school.  This is a great platform to give children a voice.  We also have over 50 children from years 5 & 6 trained as play ground leaders.  The children underwent some basic leadership training and now organise and lead simple games and activities for the younger children at break and lunchtimes.

Active playtimes are very important and we are fortunate to have a large number of year 6 pupils who have volunteered to be Play Leaders during lunch times.  The children all received 4 hours of training to help develop their leadership skills and familiarise them with some of the games and activities they would be leading.  They are then responsible for organising these games and activities for younger children to take part in.  This is a very responsible role and one which is extremely important at Bourne Abbey.
